How to Properly Import Models AND Textures into Unity from Blender
In this short tutorial, you will learn how to PROPERLY import Blender models, materials, and textures into Unity, while also learning how to fix the material / shader editor when importing roughness, gloss, normal, and metallic texture maps.
This method works as of 2024 and can be completed whether you are using to Unity 3D Core original built-in shaders pipeline or the HDRP pipeline, as both have access to Unity's Autodesk Interactive shader property, allowing proper results and control when using the different texture maps that Unity's default shader fails when trying to achieve the same result.

    First of all, I would like to thank you very much for the video, which is certainly very helpful. However, I would like to say that "import" is very inappropriate. Instead, it is about "recreating" something similar in Unit to what was done in Blender. Really in 2024 there is still no way to move a simple cube with a texture between 3D tools without having to do circus acrobatics? Very disappointing. 😠

    ImportFBX Errors: The mesh Plane has invalid normals. Try cleaning and triangulating Plane in your 3D modeller before importing it in unity. This is a failure in the fbx exporter of the tool which exported the fbx file. (Filename: C:\build\output\unity\unity\Modules\AssetPipelineEditor\Public\ModelImporting\FBXImporter.cpp Line: 378) please help

    I am still finding this tutorial useful in Blender 4.1 . Trying to add a decal to the tank of my model Thruxton, I tried the shrinkwrap method over and over that is shown in a few other tutorials but it never worked out. Tried this method and Bingo! First attempt a success. The video might have been made with an older version of Blender but it remains relevant today. Thanks.

    This doesn't work for me, I followed all steps exactly, re-watched to make sure, and the materials still just import as a white base colour and that's it. I'm thinking instead of not importing one of the textures, it didn't import any of them? Where did you find that texture on your desktop? I only know where the .blend file is, where might the textures be? I used a Poligon plugin. No idea how to fix this...

    Nice tutorial. But I have to bake the texture from the shaders in blender first I think? Because in UE5 it just shows up as a grey texture without the normals that I added in shaders

      Only procedural Materials in blender need to be baked. PBR materials in blender will translate just fine using USD

    "-1" inverts 1 to -1 not 0, you need to use a lerp with 1 to 0. also you need to set your sampler type of the specular and gloss to "masked".

    The green channel of the Normal map also needs to be inverted as Unreal Engine uses DirectX while Blender operates on OpenGL. Correct me if I'm mistaken!

      You are correct. Blender uses OpenGL, while UE uses DirectX. Flip the green in UE or replace with a DX normal map

      Since when can you have Unreal accept a 'raw' .blend file without a plug-in? Are you referring to some of the plug-ins like UEBridge? Blend file importer? Live link for Blender?

      Probably talking about Blender for Unreal plugin. There is no way to import a .blend file directly into UE. Either FBX or USD are needed.

    I've managed to fake out the fade out you see on planetary atmospheres with this method by creating a 2d plane around a sphere with "halo" texture applied to it and then locking it to the camera. The limitation is that it only works for distant wide shots, as it only tracks the camera position and not the direction it is facing.

    None of it's working for me. The textures were mapped fine in Blender Render, but now using Cycles to get a world background. I followed all your steps, double-checked them... I can see in the materials preview the texture is there, but nothing displays in the 3D view or on render...
